It is the best solution I have found so far. It locks the TV from power and uses an actual key. No less inconvenient than the remotes with passwords for every channel.

Comment on How To Help Your Teen Be A Successful Babysitter

Great article, Patty. Now I know what it refers to and will be keeping track of any tweets/facebook postings that my stepdaughter posts that refer to this. Great post.

Comment on Wake Me Up Before You YOLO: What parents should know about the latest teen trend in risky behavior

Man, Patty. I loved this post but these are the kind of posts that freak me out. This was definitely the first time I'd heard of YOLO (being that my son is only 2.5), but it's scary to me to wonder what kids will be doing when Evan is Allison's age! I know everything that you guys do is out of love. Keep on keeping on!

Comment on "Spending Quality Time With A Teen" is Not an Oxymoron-- When You're Volunteering Together

I have 2 teenage step kids and have been looking for volunteer opportunities for them in our area. Unfortunately most of the organizations here require them to be 16 (they are 13 & 15 now) before they can join, even with a parent or guardian. I will be checking out NCL though to see if they have any organizations in our area. My stepdaughter goes to a private school where they are required to do 20 hours of community service a year which is great but I would love to get us all involved in something that we could do together.

Comment on From Setbacks to Comebacks: Helping Teens Deal With Disappointment

I found this article while searching the topic "helping your child deal with disappointment". I did find it helpful. My daughter received a devastating rejection yesterday and my heart is aching for her (imagine being a 14 y/o girl and being the ONLY one of your friends who applied for a program who was not chosen, ouch), and I am concerned with how it will affect her self-confidence. At the same time I don't want to make any mis-steps.

Comment on Are Teen Hang-outs An Endangered Species?

Thanks for your input! I forgot about the mall scavenger hunts-- my youngest was just involved in one recently and they, too, felt the angst of the mall cop. It makes you wonder if those cops and other teen-bashing adults ever had kids, or if theirs are currently babies. But at the very least, you'd think they'd remember their own teen years. Guess too many don't!

Comment on Are Teen Hang-outs An Endangered Species?

We, too had a teen club, called "The Spider Web", with dancing on the top floor, a lounge on the ground floor, and if I recall, "foosball" and other games somewhere in between. It was there not only when I was in high school but when my siblings were growing up, and they're at least 10 years older than me! Wonder if it still lives on...I'll bet it doesn't...

Comment on Are Teen Hang-outs An Endangered Species?

I completely agree!!!! I have taken teens on crazy innocent scavenger hunt type parties around town more than once and we constantly get thrown out of places. The mall cop eyeballed my princess dressed high schoolers like they were common criminals, while he ignored the skateboarding middle schooler skating past the "no skateboarding" sign. People are downright vicious to teens who are trying to have innocent fun. I'm like "would you rather they were doing something illegal and destructive??" And since I don't allow mine to house parties (for reasons stated) of families I don't know, there are few late hang outs that happen outside of my house or a few good friends houses. We just had a teen hangout club open here in Tulsa (I belive Dallas has the same one), within a week or so there were altercations. And yes many are going to the hookah bar too, not mine, but some are. I have dreamed of solutions too.

</rdf:RDF>
